MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE COMMANDER: NATIONAL PRIORITY CRIMES: ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER SUIKER BRITZ

PRETORIA: 11 January 1997

(Statement re further arrests by the National Special Investigation Team in connection with in-transit heist)

Non stop investigations by the National Special investigation Team have resulted in the arrest of a further three suspects linked to the R10-million Marble Hall heist.

This brings to eight the number of suspects already arrested and believed to be directly linked to last year's killer SBV heist in which six security officials were murdered near Marble Hall.

The three suspects, including a SAPS member, were all arrested in different provinces, namely Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape, which once again serves to prove the intensity of the South African Police Service's intelligence capacity.

The latest three suspects linked to the R10-million heist are expected to appear in a Pretoria Court on Monday 12 January 1998.

These arrests are further proof of SAPS continued efforts to clamp down on crime and to ensure that criminals are put behind bars.

I would like to personally congratulate all the members involved in these arrests for their persistent efforts in solving this case.
