MEDIA STATEMENT ON PROTECTION OF TAIWANESE INVESTMENTS IN SOUTH AFRICA

According to media reports emanating from Taipei, Taiwanese authorities have indicated that they may pull investments out of South Africa if Taiwanese businesses in South Africa are not safeguarded after the severance of diplomatic relations.

The South African Government wishes to restate its often-repeated position that Taiwanese investors and visitors will continue to be welcome in South Africa and that Taiwanese investors will continue to enjoy all the benefits and protection in law, accorded to other foreign investors in South Africa. Should Taiwanese investors wish to bring their concerns to the attention of the South African Government, adequate channels of communication are available for these purposes.
