STATEMENT RE: ESCAPING OF DAN MABOTE FROM STERKFONTEIN MENTAL HOSPITAL
I have a grim view of the escape of Dan Mabote who was accused of rape and murder of an 11 year old girl, Mmamokgethi Malebane on the East Rand early this year.
It is unacceptable that the hard work of the police officials involved in his arrest be rendered in vain and fruitless by his escape.
I have therefore, requested the acting National Commissioner of the SAPS, Deputy National Commissioner Morgan Chetty to submit an urgent report regarding the circumstances of his escape.
The Department of Safety and Security will do everything in its power to trace and rearrest the escapee as soon as we possibly can, thus ensuring that he meets the full wrath of the law, and that justice takes its course.
