POSTPONEMENT OF PUBLIC HEARINGS SCHEDULED FOR 8-10 DEC

MEDIA ALERT

The GAUTENG Provincial Legislature Development Planning and Local Government Standing Committee hereby gives notice that it has resolved to postpone the Public Hearings scheduled for 8 and 10 December 1997 due to the following reasons:

• on the 8 and 9 December 1997 there will be a National Local Government Green Paper Conference which all members of the Standing Committee have to attend and presumably most local government councillors will be attending as well; and
• on Wednesday, 10 December 1997 the Legislature will be hosting a function organised under the auspices of the Gauteng Parliamentary Association and to which all members of the Legislature have been invited.

The Standing Committee has taken the view that the hearings will be affected by poor attendance by members of the Legislature and that this will defeat the purpose of having the hearings. The Standing Committee therefore decided that the hearings be postponed to the first week of February 1998.
