MINISTER ZUMA TO OPEN CLINIC IN KWAZULU/NATAL ON SUNDAY

PRETORIA - Minister of Health, Dr Nkosazana Zuma will official open a clinic at Gcilima Village near Margate in KwaZulu/Natal South of Durban on Sunday December 7. The clinic, which was previously operated from a school in the village, was rebuilt as a new structure at a cost of R1.9-million from the RDP funds, said Gcilima community leader, Mdu Mbuthuma. Mbuthuma said the clinic had to be built separately from the school after it became a health threat to pupils.

The clinic provides easy access to the health needs of the residents of Gcilima who have to travel more than 50 kilometres to the nearest hospital in Port Shepstone. About 5000 residents per month visited the clinic for various health services.

"It's (the clinic) a victory for us to get this service, this place has many people and our community are excited that the minister will be here to open the clinic," he said. The Gcilima community have waited 20 years for a new clinic until funds were made available in 1996 from the RDP fund to build a bigger, better facility. Members of the media are invited to this event.
