PERMANENT APPOINTMENTS TO THE SUPREME COURT OF APPEAL, TRANSVAAL, CAPE AND NATAL PROVINCIAL DIVISIONS AND TRANSKEI DIVISION OF THE HIGH COURT
The Judicial Service Commission invites nominations to fill vacancies in the undermentioned Courts:
(1) Transvaal Provincial Division - Three vacancies
(2) Cape Provincial Division - Two vacancies
(3) Natal Provincial Division - Three vacancies
(4) Transkei Division - One vacancy
Nominations must be accompanied by the nominee's written consent and the standard questionaire completed by the nominee. I wish to emphasise three points:
1. Interviews with short listed candidates will be conducted in public in the same manner as court proceedings, i.e. members of the public and the media will be entitled to be present, but radio and television recordings of the interviews will not be permitted.
2. It is open to persons or bodies nominating candidates to motivate their nomination by referring the Commission to the candidate's qualifications and general fitness for appointment.
3. Nominations must be addressed to and reach the Secretary of the Commission not later than Friday, 13 February 1998.
The meeting of the Judicial Service Commission and the interviewing of candidates has been scheduled for the period 6 - 8 April 1998.
