MEDIA ARRANGEMENTS - 2ND NATIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT

Following strong media interest in the proceedings of the 2nd National Youth Summit at the Eskom Centre (Dale Road, Midrand) this weekend, I am pleased to advise you of the following media-related arrangements.

As with the 1st National Youth Summit, which drew weekend attendance from 30 journalists, the NYC will again open all plenary proceedings of the Summit to interested media observers.
Attendance will again be facilitated via prior notification and accreditation. Please confirm the names of attending journalists by Friday 28 November. Space constraints allow only for the accommodation of journalists who have provided notice of attendance. Other journalists will have to use the press briefing scheduled for Sunday at 2.00 pm to gather information and comment.
A copy of the draft policy - based on all deliberations leading up to the Summit - will be circulated to media immediately after delegates have had a chance to see it. These are of limited supply and first preference will obviously be given to journalists in attendance.
Although the opening reception on the evening of Friday 28 November has been allocated as an invitation-only event, I will be keen to facilitate media access to the evening's key addresses by Minister of Labour, Tito Mboweni, as well as the Deputy Director of USAID, which has assisted in the funding of the Summit. Please indicate interest urgently in this regard.
Attending TV crews (so far, Bop TV, Inside Info, Two Way and K-TV) should note that - as with the June Youth Summit (and in fairness to the deliberations) - we are once again asserting a strong preference for fixed camera positions while the Summit is in session. The nature of the venue is such that cut-aways will easily be possible from a well-chosen positiocuring optimum positions each morning. Your co-operation in this regard will be appreciated.
Radio journalists should note that no arrangements are being made for a central sound feed and prepare accordingly.
