SPECIAL SITTING BY GAUTENG PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE

Issued by: Gauteng Legislature - Office of the Secretary

26 November 1997

The GAUTENG Provincial Legislature is to hold a Special Sitting as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign organised by the National Women's Coalition (NWC) in the Selbourne Hall, City Hall Building, corner President and Loveday Streets, Johannesburg on Monday, 1 December 1997, at 10am.

The NWC has approached the National Parliament in Cape Town and the nine Provincial Legislatures requesting that each Provincial Legislature organise a Special Sitting as part of the Sixteen Days of Action Against Violence Against Women. Originally the Gauteng Legislature agreed to hold an informal Sitting. However they have now decided that a Formal Sitting will precede the informal session involving the NWC. The plan is that affiliates of the NWC will pose questions to Members of Executive Committee (MECs) during this informal session.
