JORDAN PRESENTED THE FOLLOWING INFO TO PARLIAMENT

Dr Z Pallo Jordan, the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, presented the following information to Parliament today....

1. In response to a question asked by Mr C Wyngaard, MP, Minister Jordan told parliament that R213,793 million had been spent by his Department as at 31 October 1997, of the R370,541 million allocated from the Budget for the 1997-98 financial year. This represents 57,7% of his Department's budget.

Minister Jordan said that this figure represents an underspending by his Department, which he ascribed mainly to unfilled vacancies.

2. In response to a question asked by Mr A Williams, MP, Minister Jordan said that since his appointment as Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, his Ministry spent the following amounts on official entertainment:

a) 1 July 1996 to 31 December 1996 : R7 683,27 b) 1 January 1997 to 31 October 1997 : R20 101,92

3. In response to a question asked by Mr C A Wyngaard, on gifts received, Minister Jordan presented parliament with a list of gifts received from 1 January 1997. This list may be obtained from the Parliamentary Registrar of Members' Interests.
