ITINERARY OF PRESIDENT NELSON MANDELA

(FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY - ITINERARY OF PRESIDENT NELSON MANDELA (31 October 1997 to 11 November 1997)

Friday, 31 October 1997:

President Mandela will attend the Coronation of King Letsie in Lesotho.

Saturday, 1 November 1997:

At 11H42 the President will receive HRH the Prince of Wales at his official residence, Mahlamba-Ndlopfu. There will be a photo-opportunity and an informal media call at approximately 12H20. (Contact the South African Communications Service for accreditation and programme details)

There will also be a photo-opportunity between 12H30 AND 13H00 when the President meets the pop group Spice Girls. HRH the Prince of Wales, as well as delegates from The Nations Trust will also be present. (NOTE: Only accredited media covering the Royal visit will be accommodated)

After hosting a luncheon in honour of HRH the Prince of Wales, the President will leave at approximately 14H30 for Durban where he will attend the ACCORD Peace Award function at the International Convention Centre where President Mandela will present the Africa Peace ward to President Chissano.

Sunay, November 1997:

The President will attend the ANC matter in the afternoon in Gauteng.

Monday, 3 November 1997:

The President spend the day at the ANC offices. In the evening the President will fly to Cape Town.

Tuesday, 4 November 1997:

- At 09H15 at Tuynhuys the President will receive a courtes visit from Mrs Angelo Poulos-Daskalaki who is the President of the Greek Olympic Committee.

President Mandela will meet Dr Mbuende, Secretary General of SADC at 10H00 at Tuynhuys, Cape Town.

In the evening between 19H00 and 21H00 the President will host a banquet in honour of HRH The Prince of Wales at Tuynhuys, Cape Town.

Wednesday, 5 November 1997:

The President will attend an event at the Cape Sun Hotel, Cape Town in honour of Chief Rabbi Cyril Harris in the evening.

Friday, 7 November 1997:

President Mandela attends the Fish River Spatial Development Initiative International Investment Conference in East London between 08H30 and 09H30. Thereafter the President will return to Gauteng.

Saturday, 8 November 1997:

- The President will rest today.

Sunday, 9 November 1997:

President Mandela is expected to attend a rally in Mpumalanga. Contact the ANC for details.

Monday, 10 November 1997:

- The President spends the day at the ANC office in Johannesburg.

Tuesday, 11 November 1997:

- Between 09H30 and 11H00 the President will attend the Plenary Session of the Independent World Commission on Oceans in Cape Town.
