Two separate lists of the media pools for the tour of South Africa by the Prince of Wales will be published by this office. There will be one for the South African national media and another for the foreign media stationed in this country.
To avoid confusion, it will be appreciated if all queries relating to the South African media are directed to Viv Naicker and Petra Wiese of the South African Communication Service and those to the foreign media stationed in South Africa to Ms Annamarie Meijer of the Foreign Correspondents' Association in Johannesburg. All relevant telephone and facsimile numbers are listed below.
With few exceptions, pools will be in operation. These were assembled after consultation with media organisations and individual journalists. Every care was taken to ensure that the composition of the pools was as equitable as possible. In most cases, only one newspaper was selected where there were two or more sister organisations in the same city.
Security personnel and others involved in the visit will apply rules strictly, so please note the following:
1. All journalists, South African and foreign, must display their Press Cards prominently. It would help to carry ID documents or passports. 2. Only journalists whose names appear in the pol lists will be allowed into venues. 3. Once within the pool area, journalists will be issued with special pool cards by either as SACS or Department of Foreign Affairs official. Thes cards will be valid fr that particular venue only. 4. Journalists are expected to arrive at all venues at least one hour before the stipulated time, to allow the security checks and equipment searches 5.Officials will advise journalists of special rules which might apply at certain venues. Your co-operation in these instances would be appreciated. 6. The arrival of Prince Charles at the Waterkloof Airbase tomorrow at 15:10 is open to all media and only a valid press card is necessary. Access will be controlled by the military authorities. 7. Media officials will wear badges labelled "OFFICIAL DELEGATION", should you require special assistance.
