PRESS STATEMENT BY DEPARTMENT OF ARTS, CULTURE AND SPORT, NORTH WEST GOVERNMENT ON MRS ROSEMARY MANGOPE.
Mrs Rosemary Mangope was Executive Director of the Mmabana Cultural Foundatin, and was asked to resume her duties from August 18 1997, but she has persistently failed to return to work.
She was again instructed to resume her duties as Chief Executive Officer of Mmabana Cultural Foundation rom October 7 1997, but to date she has failed or refused to adhere to our request and instructions.
The North West Government has given adequate time to her to reconsider her position, and to comply with her duties in terms of her appointment. We furthermore clearly communicated to her lawyers what the effect of non-compliance with the instruction to report to duty on or before October 7 would be.
In view of her persistent refusal or failure to perform her duties, we have decided to remove her from office as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Mmabana Cultural Foundation, with immediate effect, in terms of Section 6, read with Section 18 of the Mmabana Cultural Foundation Act, 15 of 1987.
She has not been paid since August 18 1997 when she was first asked to report for duty.
