STATE VISIT: PRIME MINISTER IK GUJRAL OF INDIA

Prime Minister Gujral of India will visit South Africa from 5 to 10 October 1997 at the invitation of President Nelson Mandela.

The visit will further cement Indo-South African relations and reflects the objectives of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership signed by President Nelson Mandela and India's former Prime Minister Gowda at the Red Fort in Delhi n March, 1997. South Africa and India see the Red Fort Declaration as a solid framework for building future relations between the two countries.

A detailed programme of Prime Minister Gujral's visit, listing all media opportunities and special media briefings, will be issued by the South African Communication Service through SAPA PR later today.
