MEDIA STATEMENT BY MINISTER M.V. MOOSA, MINISTER OF PROVINCIAL AFFAIRS AND CONSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The result of the Market Research Africa (MRA) survey conducted on behalf of Business Day (published in Business Day 08:09:97) confirming that 92% of urban South Africans are satisfied with standards of service delivery is encouraging.
The results of the study verify reports from the Department of Provincial Affairs and Constitutional Development about the high levels of service delivery and infrastructural development at local level by the government after the 1994 elections.
The acceleration of service delivery as part of the Masakhane Campaign has benefited all socio-economomic groupings, but special emphasis has been placed on improving conditions in the most deprived areas of our country. It is also significant that the perception that the acceleration of service delivery to the poorer communities would be achieved by compromising standards of delivery to the more affluent areas has been proved to be false by this study. This remarkable success rate is especially significant as it illustrates the viability of co-operation between the national, provincial and local government.
