ADVISORY ON MEDIA FACILITIES FOR TRC AMNESTY HEARING

Issued by: Truth and Reconciliation Commission

September 3, 1997

Journalists planning to cover the amnesty hearings in Port Elizabeth next week - in particular the applications arising out of the killing of Steve Biko - are asked to send accreditation details to the TRC in advance.

Details of names and media organisations should be sent by Friday to Phila Ngqumba, media liaison officer for the Eastern Cape, at the TRC's East London Office, fax 0431- 43-9352.

The venue of the hearings is the Centenary Hall, New Brighton.

Accreditation tags can be picked up before the hearing begins, upon presentation of satisfactory press identification. Journalists are asked to allow time for security checks of their equipment as they enter the venue.

Broadcast journalists need to arrive early to arrange feeds. The TRC's sound contractors will provide audio and video DAs. Broadcast journalists should bring their own field recorders and audio and video cables. The feed is supplied from SABC cameras. For further technical inquiries, please contact Sol Terblanche at 082- 572-4221.

Photographers who have not covered TRC hearings previously are asked to note that there are tight restrictions on the use of cameras.
