SECOND PARLIAMENTARY BRIEFING WEEK FOR 1997
The Media Liaison Directorate of the South African Communication Service can now confirm that the second Parliamentary Briefing Week for 1997 will start on Monday, 8 September and end on Friday, 12 September. All briefings will be held in the Rain Forest Room - the large auditorium at 120 Plein Street, Cape Town.
Journalists covering the briefing will not require special accreditation. Normal press cards will be accepted at the police checkpoint in 120 Plein Street. However, News Editors and Bureau Chiefs are requested to submit the names of staff covering the briefings to Viv Naicker to be placed on a list. It would be appreciated if this is done only by telefax not later than Monday, 1 September. As this is compulsory for security reasons, journalists whose names do not appear on our list will NOT be allowed into the parliamentary precincts.
A schedule of briefings will be issued by this office close to the briefing week. However, it must be noted that for various reasons beyond our control, the schedule is subject to change up to the last minute.
Journalists must also note that they will be called upon by the police to submit to daily body and equipment searches.
