Journalists planning to cover the amnesty hearings in Cape Town next week - including the Amy Biehl matter - are asked to send accreditation details to the TRC in advance.
Details of names and media organisations must be sent to Christelle Terreblanche at the TRC's Cape Town office, fax number 021-24-5225. Faxes should reach her or Odile Pearce before or on Friday, 4 July, 1997. We urgently need the information to access the need for technical equipment and for briefings for foreign journalists - particularly on the amnesty process.
The venue of the hearing will be the TRC hearing room in its Cape Town office, at 106 Adderley Street, Cape Town central.
Accreditation tags can be picked up before the hearing begins, upon presentation of satisfactory press identification. Journalists are asked to allow time for security checks of their equipment as they enter the venue.
The hearings will start daily at 09h00 am and will be open to the public. Journalists are expected to go through security checks no later than 08h00 am on each day of the hearings.
Broadcast journalists in particular need to arrive early to arrange feeds. The TRC's sound contractors will provide audio and video DAs. Broadcast journalists should bring their own field recorders and audio and video cables. Foreign TV crews please note that the feed is supplied from SABC cameras - there is not enough space for more cameras inside the hearing venue. If further technical inquiries are to be made, please contact Sol Terblanche at 082 5724221.
Photographers who have not covered TRC hearings previously are asked to note that there are tight restrictions on the use of stills cameras.
Media can contact Christelle Terreblanche for more information at 021-245161 (office hours) or on 0824588461.
