GAUTENG LOCAL AUTHORITIES RATING AMENDMENT BILL

The Sitting of the House in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature this afternoon, 12 June 1997 at 14h15, will consider the issues mentioned below.

The swearing in of two new Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPSs) representing the African National Congress (ANC), namely Mr Bheki Nkosi and Mr Joggie Boers, who recently resigned his seat as National Party MPL to join the ANC.

The Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Development Planning and Local Government Dr Mathole Motshekga, will present a report on the Gauteng Local Authorities Rating Amendment Bill, which seeks to "simplify the procedures for the compilation of valuation rolls and to rectify the erroneous exclusion of surface rights permits from the definition of rateable property and also provide for the taxation of government properties which are being leased according to the Bill's Memorandum.

The House will then debate the principle and detail of the Bill, which is expected to be adopted at today's Sitting.
