VISIT BY MIN PAHAD TO MOROCCO AND EGYPT

MEDIA STATEMENT ON VISIT BY DEPUTY MINISTER ESSOP PAHAD TO MOROCCO AND EGYPT

Deputy Minister Essop Pahad of the Office of the Deputy President, will visit the Kingdom of Morocco from 8 to 12 June 1997. During the visit he will meet with various Government Ministers to discuss matters of mutual interest. Deputy Minister Pahad will also meet with members of the Moroccan Olympic Committee in an effort to bolster Cape Town's 2004 Olympic Bid. During his stay he will officially open a South African cultural week in Cassablanca.

From the Kingdom of Morocco, Deputy Minister Pahad will travel to Arab Republic of Egypt where he will lead the South African delegation to the 8th Ordinary Session of the Organisation of African Unity Conference of Information Ministers from 16 to 19 June 1997 in Cairo. Deputy Minister Pahad will also participate in the Intergovernmental Council for Communication in Africa, during which progress on the African Regional Satellite Project will be reported on, as well as the progress on the privatisation process of the Pan African News Agency.

Deputy Minister Pahad will also use the opportunity to meet with the Egyptian Olympic Committee to strengthen Cape Town's 2004 Bid.
