Dr Tanya E Abrahamse has been appointed as Deputy Director-General at the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEA&T) in Pretoria. Dr Abrahamse who is currently Chief Director: Human Settlement with the Department of Housing, will assume her new post in DEA&T in July 1997.
Before joining the Department of Housing, Dr Abrahamse played a vital role in the RDP Office (Office of the President), as Chief Director: Development Facilitation, from 1994 to 1996. She also held the positions of Executive Director and Land Use Unit Manager in the Environmental and Development Agency (EDA) in Johannesburg, from 1991 to 1994.
Dr Abrahamse also worked as Programme Co-ordinator for the Zimbabwe Environmental Research Organisation (ZERO) in Harare, as Project Officer for the Congress of South African Trade Unions, as a Lecturer/Researcher for the Polytechnic of Central London (PCL), and as a Researcher at the University of Zambia.
Dr Abrahamse received a Bachelor of Science degree (Biology with Psychology) from the University of Zambia, a Master of Science degree (Tropical and Sub-tropical Applied Entomology) and a Diploma of Imperial College from the University of London Imperial College, and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Decision-making among small scale farmers in Developing Agriculture) from the Polytechnic of Central London.
