PRESS STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF NEW SOUTH AFRICAN HEADS OF DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Alfred Nzo, has announced the recent appointment by President Mandela of the following Heads of Diplomatic Missions:
Ms ME Sisulu (Consul General : New York)
Mr R S Suttner : (Ambassador : Stockholm, Sweden)

MS SHEILA SISULU CONSUL GENERAL : NEW YORK
Mrs Shiela Violet Makate Sisulu matriculated at St Michaels Girls School in Swaziland and subsequently studied at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland where she obtained a BA degree and a Certificate in Education in 1974, with majors in English and Philosophy. During her student years Mrs Sisulu was an active member of the Student Representative Council. In 1990 she obtained a BED degree at the University of Witwatersrand.
Between 1987 and 1988 Mrs Sisulu was employed in various positions at the South African Committee for Higher Education. Between 1988 and 1994 Mrs Sisulu held positions as the National Coordinator for Educational Opportunities, Educational Coordinator for the African Bursary Fund and Director of the Joint Enrichment Project. Since 1994 Mrs Sisulu has been the Special Advisor to the Minister of Education.
Mrs Sisulu has coordinated a number of conferences and workshops dealing with education and the youth of South Africa.
Mrs Sisulu is currently a member of the board of the SABC, the Thabang Women's Club, the Women's Development Foundation, and a member of the board of trustees of the Equal Opportunity Foundation. She is also a Director of World Wide Africa Investment Holding and of Infinity Asset Management Company.
Mrs Sisulu is married with three children.
MR R S SUTTNER : AMBASSADOR : STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Mr Raymond Suttner (51) is a Member of the National Assembly for the ANC. He chairs the Foreign Affairs Portfolio Committee and is a Member of the Rules Committee. He has been active in politics since his student days. He worked underground for the ANC and SACP in 1971-75 before being arrested. Over a period of two decades, he was held in detention for over 10 years. From 1990 to 1994 he was Head of the Political Education Section of the ANC and Deputy Head of the Organising Department. He has been a member of the ANC National Executive Committee since 1991 and was elected to the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party in 1991, being re-elected in 1995.
He holds BA and LLB degrees from the University of Cape Town and did research at Oxford and London Universities for 18 months. He held various academic positions, the most recent being senior lecturer in law at the University of the Witwatersrand. Mr Suttner is married.
