BENGU ON WORKING VISIT TO BRITAIN AND GERMANY

The Minister of Education, Prof. SME Bengu, will undertake a working visit to Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany from the 12th to the 22 May 1997. The Minister will deliver the keynote address at the International Conference on Democratic Education at the Co-operative College, Standard Hall, Loughborough. He will also Officially open the Bilston Education Centre, and attend a reception in his honour at the House of Commons. Prof Bengu will also meet with a broad range of individuals and groups to discuss British-South African co-operation in education.

On the German leg of his trip, the Minister will meet the German University Rectors' Conference, the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, the President of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Culture of the States of the German Republic, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development. He will also visit the University of Berlin, the Federal Institution for Vocational Education and Training, and the Specialised Institute for Higher Education of Cologne. The Minister will also meet a number of important educationists, key stakeholders and decision-makers in German society.

The Minister of Labour Mr Tito Mboweni, will be the Acting Minister of Education in the Minister's absence.
