ADVISORY ON MEDIA ARRANGEMENTS FOR POLITICAL PARTY HEARINGS

Journalists planning to cover the TRC's political party hearings in Cape next week should please phone or fax their contact details to our Media Liaison Department.

The ANC is scheduled to appear on Monday, 12 May, from 10h00 am onwards. If they are not finished by the end of the day, their hearing will continue on Tuesday.

The TRC panel on Monday will be: TRC Chairperson Archbishop Desmond Tutu, deputy chair, Dr Alex Borainne, and Commissioners Dumisa Ntsebeza, Rev Dr Khoza Mgojo and Ms Hlengiwe Mkhize. The ANC delegation will be led by Deputy President Thabo Mbeki. Several government ministers, premiers and other high ranking officials from the party have indicated that they will be present.

The National Party (NP) is due to answer questions on Wednesday, 14 May, and the Freedom Front (FF) on Friday, 16 May. These hearings will also start at 10h00 am.

Details of names and media organisations to be accredited should be sent to Odile Pearce or Monica Joyi, phone Cape Town (021) 24-5205, or fax (021) 24-5225.

The venue of the hearing will be the Commission's offices at 106 Adderley Street, Cape Town. Limited seating will be available in the hearing room, but accreditation will also give journalists access to other rooms from which the hearing can be monitored.

No cameras will be permitted in the hearing venue apart from authorised video cameras placed by the organisation providing a video feed of proceedings, which in this case will be the SABC.

Broadcasters, please advise us if you require feeds. The TRC's sound contractors will provide audio and video DA's. Broadcast journalists should bring their own field recorders and audio and video cables in order to get feeds. If you need advice on plugging into feeds, please contact Christelle or Sello.

The TRC does not permit stills photography during hearings but will arrange photo opportunities outside the hearing venue.

Journalists are asked to allow time for security checks of their equipment as they enter the hearing venue.
