Members of the media are invited to attend a demostration of low-smoke stoves and fuels in the auditorium at Mintek, Hans Strijdom Road, Randburg from 10:30 - 12:00. Media representatives are invited to attend the special promotion, which offers an excellent photo opportunity, at 12:00 at the Renewable Energy Demostration Centre, Cresswell Road, Silverton, Pretoria. Member of the media will also have the opportunity to taste a meal prepared in a solar cooker.
Members of the media are invited to a site-visit in Mohlakeng, Randfontein. You will be taken on a tour through the area to view how insulation was used in a low cost housing project. The media will be shown how passive design (building in harmony with the local climate, obtaining indoor thermal comfort with minimal recourse to artificial heating or cooling) is applied in a developing area. The tour starts at 10:30. There are opportunities for interviews with local people staying in these homes. A light lunch of traditional foods prepared on gas will be served afterwards.
