INVITATION TO THE LAUNCH OF THE FIRST EVER ENERGY WEEK

Issued by: Department of Minerals and Energy

The Energy Branch in the Department of Minerals and Energy recently launched the second phase of an energy efficiency campaign aimed at householders in South Africa.

For the first time, an educational week will be held from 12 to 16 May 1997 during which energy users will be given information on how to save energy. Each day of the week a different theme will be highlighted, and South Africans will have the opportunity to learn more about energy savings in specific areas.

The Deputy Minister of Minerals and Energy, Ms Susan Shabangu, will officially launch the campaign and comprehensive information highlighting the first day's theme, namely transport energy and fuel conservation, will be given. Media journalists are offered a drive in a electric vehicle together with the energy efficient character, Enerwizz, which offers an excellent photo opportunity. Furthermore, a signing ceremony will take place between South Africa and the International Institute for Energy Conservation on co-operation in developing the Clean Ride Initiative and achieving energy efficient goals. The initiative is a component of the Mbeki-Gore Bi-National Commission aimed at co-operation between South Africa and the United States. You are herewith invited to attend the launch on Monday 12 May 1997 at 10:00 at Daimler Park, Kyalami Boulevard, Kyalami Business Park, Midrand (maps are available from Monja Erasmus at (012) 322 4954).
