MBEKI, WILL LEAVE ON A SIX NATION WORKING VISIT

Deputy President Thabo Mbeki, accompanied by senior government officials, will leave on a six nation working visit from 7-10 May 1997, as part of continued efforts of trying to establish peace in Zaire.

On 7 May 1997 the delegation will arrive in Angola and Tanzania and on 8 May they will be in Rwanda. The delegation will pay a visit to Lubumbashi and Kinshasa in Zaire on 9 May. On 10 May the delegation will pay a visit to Congo and Gabon, before returning to South Africa the same evening.

The purpose of the visit is to brief the respective Heads of State on the deliberations that took place on the SAS Outeniqua this past weekend. It is hoped that during these visits agreement will be reached on the way forward, through broad consultations.
