DR ZUMA TO HOST DUCHESS OF KENT

Health Minister Nkosazana Zuma, today announced that Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Kent would visit South Africa in April/May 1997, to learn about the situation of children and, in particular, the implementation of the National Programme of Action for Children (NPA).

Her Royal Highness will be in South Africa in her capacity as the Patron of the United Kingdom Committee for UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), and aims to help raise awareness and funds in support of projects for children, on her return to the UK.

The Duchess will be hosted by Dr Zuma, who Chairs the NPA Core Group of Ministers which oversees the implementation of policies and strategies to ensure that the goals of the NPA are incorporated as priorities within the relevant Departmental programmes.

Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Kent, will visit projects in Northern Province, Gauteng, KwaZulu/Natal and the Western Cape provinces, as below:

Tuesday 29 April Hlatlolanang Centre: community-based integrated Northern Province: health, nutrition, early childhood education and agricultural training project

Wednesday 30 April Masakane farm school: Gauteng: Witkoppen school "Kids Care" project

Friday 2 May Oliviershoek clinic and community-based Kwazulu/Natal: nutritional surveillance project

Monday 5 May Launch the gs with a number of senior national and provincial government officials including the Minister of Welfare, Mrs Geraldine Frazer-Moleketi, the Premiers of the Northern Province and KwaZulu/Natal, Mr N Ramathlodi and Dr Ben Ngubane, respectively.
