In accordance with the Council of Traditional Leaders Act 1997, the historic launching of the Council of Traditional Leaders will take place on 18 April 1997 in the Old Assembly Chambers in the Parliamentary complex - Cape Town.
Procedural arrangements:
Friday: 18 April 1997.
08:15 Arrival of the nominees and their spouses. Ladies dressed in traditional attires will meet guests outside the entrance to the Old Assembly (Poorthuis) Photo Opportunity.
08:30 Arrival of International guests, South African Kings accompanied by the Chairpersons of Provincial Houses. Photo opportunity.
09:00 Arrival of the President or Deputy President of South Africa accompanied by the Minister of Provincial Affairs and Constitutional Development, Mr V Moosa, the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Mr MGP Lekota and other dignatories. Photo opportunity.
09:10 The President or the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa will lead the procession consisting of Minister Moosa, Minister of Provincial Affairs and Constitutional Development, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Mr Lekota, the nominated members of the Council of Traditional Leaders and Mr Justice Edwin King into the chamber. Photo Opportunity.
N/B - Due to limited room inside the chamber, only scribes will be allowed in the gallery of the Old Assembly. Media should take note that a first come first serve exercise will be entertained. Pool photographer who will also be the official photographer has to be nominated. He will be the only still photographer in the chamber. - Provision is made for two TV cameras in the gallery and on the floor.
