SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE INVITATION TO THE MEDIA
SAPS DAY OF PRAYER AGAINST CRIME
DATE: SUNDAY 13 APRIL 1997 TIME: 13:30 VENUE: LOFTUS VERSVELD
The Spiritual Services component of the South African Police Service is planning a day of prayer on a large scale on Sunday 13 April 1997.
The SA Police Service wishes on this occasion to make a widespread plea to the religious members of our community to unite against crime.
Just as the business community has come together to fight crime, so too can South Africans of all denominations and different religions join hands to rid our country of the evil of crime and criminals.
The programme for Sunday's events is forwarded with this invitation. All are invited to attend and a number of church denominations will be present.
President Nelson Mandela and a number of Ministers, as well as a number of other dignitaries, have been invited, and many have accepted.
The National Commissioner of the SA Police Service, Commissioner George Fivaz, will welcome all those present on this occasion. Two of the National Deputy Commissioners - John Manuel and Zolisa Lavisa, will also be in attendance and will address those present.
A convoy, consisting of more than 100 vehicles, including SAPS Casspirs, Nyalas and BMW's, trucks from the Highway Ministry and the Christian Motorcycle Club, will depart from NASREC at 11:30 to travel via the Ben Schoeman Highway to Pretoria.
This promises to be an excellent opportunity to make video recordings and take photographs.
Every member of the media, and the community, is heartily invited to attend this function.
For more information kindly contact Snr Supt Johan Smal on 083 626 8049.
