SOUTH AFRICAN MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (SAMDI) NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PRODUCTIVITY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AWARENESS IN THE

The SAMDI National conference is being held on 13th and 14th March, 1997, at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. It will be opened at 09:10 on the 13th of March by the Deputy Executive President, Mr Thabo Mbeki.

With the rationalisation and right-sizing of the public service, it has become imperative to focus on productivity and quality improvement in the public sector. While the number of public sector employees is being reduced, the number of activities and services they are required to undertake is increasing and will continue to do so as the Government moves towards the goal of providing better services for all citizens. Prominent national and international experts will present papers focusing on these objectives.

There will be a media conference at 10:30 with the Deputy Executive President, Mr Thabo Mbeki, the Minister of Public Service and Administration Dr Zola ST Skweyiya and Dr Harry Nengwekhulu, Head of Samdi.

Several Ministers from SADC and other African countries, Including Ethiopia, will attend the conference. It will be possible for journalists to conduct special interviews with the visitors. Requests for these should be directed to either Viv Naicker or Stanford Malatjie who will be present at the conference venue.
