INVITATION TO ENERGY EFFICIENCY CAMPAIGN

The domestic sector is currently the third largest consumer of net energy in South Africa (approximately 22%) and is also the third largest consumer of electricity (approximately 17%). These figures will increase as the national electrification programme proceeds.

This is one of the sectors which contributes to the peaks in the national electricity load profile and is therefore an important target for demand-side management and energy efficiency actions. To persuade householders in South Africa to save energy, and to provide information on how to do it, the Department of Minerals and Energy started a residential awareness campaign in 1996.

The second phase, which also targets the domestic sector, will be launched on 19 March 1997 at 10:00 at the Renewable Energy Demonstration Centre of the Institute for Agricultural Engineering, 141 Cresswell Road, Silverton, Pretoria. (Map available on request).
