MEETING BETWEEN THE NORTH WEST GOVERNMENT AND THE NATIONAL YOUTH COMMISSION 20 FEBRUARY 1997
A meeting took place between the Premier and the National Youth Commission delegation led by Ms Mahlengi Bhengu. The meeting was a continuation of briefings to Provinces initiated by the Youth Commission. A range of issues were discussed including :
1. The National Youth Commission Strategy document; 2. The best mechanisms of ensuring that Government at all levels address the needs of the youth within the context of cooperative governance; 3. Coordination mechanisms between the Province and the National Youth Commission; 4. An assessment of future plans of the youth.
The meeting confirmed the importance of the youth sector to play a central role in the transformation of our society. The meeting recognised the importance of coordination within Government Departments to deliver on the needs of the youth and the improvement in the Quality of Life of our communities. In this regard plans for this year should encompass, as a necessity, programmes to meet the challenges of the youth.
The Premier pledged the commitment of the North West Government in ensuring that issues of the youth receive utmost priority.
