ITINERARY OF PRESIDENT NELSON MANDELA (12 - 19 FEBRUARY 1997)

Wednesday, 12 February 1997:

The President will spend the afternoon in the National Assembly and respond to the State of the Nation debate. Thereafter he will meet the Hungarian Speaker at 17h00 at Tuynhuys before returning to Pretoria.

Thursday, 13 February 1997:

In the morning the President will hold consultative discussions with President Mugabe in Harare and President Masire in Gaberone in the afternoon. The discussions will focus on SADC organisational matters and other regional questions.

At 19h30 President Mandela will attend the Damelin College Graduation ceremony at the Wits Great Hall in Johannesburg.

Friday, 14 February 1997:

The President will rest at his home in Houghton.

Saturday, 15 February 1997:

The President will attend his sister's funeral in Mount Frere in the Transkei. The funeral is expected to commence at 11h00.

Sunday, 16 February 1997:

At 16h00 the US Vice President Al Gore will pay a courtesy call on the President at Genadendal, Cape Town.

Monday, 17 February 1997:

The President will attend to ANC matters today.

Tuesday, 18 February 1997:

The King of Sweden pays a state visit to South Africa at the invitation of the President. President Mandela will host a banquet at 19h00 at Tuynhuys in honour of the King of Sweden.

Wednesday, 19 February 1997:

President Mandela will attend a meeting of the Cabinet in Cape Town.
