Issued by: Office of the President Subsequent to briefings by the Minister of Safety and Security on the three bomb attacks around Rustenburg in the Northwest Province, President Nelson Mandela wishes to congratulate the South African Police Service for the swift steps that they have taken to apprehend suspects.
The President is satisfied with the progress that is being made in the investigations, and he is fully confident that the culprits will be brought to book - and punished to the full extent of the law.
There is no excuse whatsoever, in our democracy, for al aims by violent means. As with the latest incidents, those responsible will face the full might of South Africa's democratically elected and legitimate government.
The three bomb blasts in the Northwest Province and the attack in Worcester a few weeks ago are directed against all South Africans by a small group of people who know no morality, lack reason and do not seem to appreciate the full implications of their dastardly acts.
Let the perpetrators be warned that they will find among South Afrient to protect democracy, peace and justice.
The President wishes to express his profound sympathies with the families and communities which have fallen victim to these actions.
With the support of South Africans of all races and language groups, the government will act swiftly and decisively to ensure that these misguided attempts to undermine our young democracy and nation-builing efforts is nip.
