EMPLOYEE'S CONTRACT FOR PUBLICATION OF PHOTOGRAPHS

Following the contract that one of the employees in the President's Household Staff had entered with a magazine to publish her photographs, the President's Office has investigated the matter and come to the following conclusions:

• that, in this particular instance, where the employee was unaware of the consequences of the publication of those pictures, there were not sufficient grounds to charge her with misconduct; and
• that, because action of this nature creates an opportunity for the commercial exploitation of an employee's association with the President, any such action would in the future constitute sufficient grounds for a charge of misconduct.

The Director-General in the President's Office reserves the right, in accordance with the Public Service Act, to re-allocate functions within the Office taking into account the interests of the President, the President's Office and the public.

The President's Office wishes not to make any further statements on this matter.
