Issued by: Office of the President
Accurate information is vital to our efforts to build a better life for all South Africans. To make sure that we make the best use of our nation's resources, we must take stock of what we have and what our people's needs are.
Census 96 will give us that knowledge.
It will tell us how many people there are in our country, and give us a true picture of living conditions. In this first census since the days of apartheid, South Africa will at last be counted as a single and united country. Each and every person will be included: dwellers in rural villages and residents of our great cities; the farm workers and those who live in the small towns across the land.
This great counting of our nation will provide the information we need for improving the standard of living for all our people.
On the eve of Census 96 I urge everyone in our great country to help the Census team conduct a successful Census from 10 October to 31 October.
Let every one of us make sure that we are counted in!
