MEDIA RELEASE BY DEPUTY MINISTER PETER MOKABA ON THE APPOINTMENT OF A NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR THE TOURISM BUSINESS COUNCIL OF SOUTH AFRICA, (TBCSA)
I heartily congratulate Mr Michael Farr on his appointment on 1 October '96, as Executive Director of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa, TBCSA. Mr Farr recently served as South Africa's Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau.
The government supports the TBCSA's mission of ensuring that the appropriate macro strategies are adopted for developing and main- taining an environment in which international and local tourism will prosper as a national priority. The business sector can achieve successful growth and development while ensuring the protection of our natural and cultural heritage.
I share the Chairman of TBCSA, Mr David Wigley's view that Mr Michael Farr's skills will accelerate the Council's objective to assist Government in finalising the White Paper on Tourism's imple- mentation strategies, and the promotion of sustainable tourism growth.
Our Government and I congratulate the Tourism Business Council of South Africa on their support activities aimed at enabling the tourism industry to be globally competitive through the training and development of staff. The above should go a long way towards encouraging the development of small and emergent business.
Welcome back from abroad Michael, the Department of Environ- mental Affairs & Tourism and I wish you well in your new endeavour.
