Her Majesty Queen Beatrix accompanied by HRH Prince Claus and HRH the Prince of Orange will arrive in South Africa on a State visit on 30 September, 1996. They will spend three days in Gauteng and one in Cape Town and its environs.
After a ceremonial welcome in Pretoria, the Royal family will attend various official functions in the city. This will include a State Banquet and a public reception. Later, they will visit other parts of Gauteng including various public venues in Johannesburg.
A media advisory containing a detailed programme for your final planning purposes will be sent out from this office closer to the time of the visit. However, the following outline will give you an idea of the number of personnel you might have to assign at the various venues:
The second stage of the State visit will be in Cape Town and nearby areas. There will be public appearances at venues in and around the city. This will last only one day.
There will be unlimited space for media coverage at most of the venues. However, because of space restrictions at a few, we would like to test media interest in order to assess whether media pools would be necessary. For this reason, it will be appreciated if you would contact either Lydia Young or Viv Naicker to indicate the extent of your interest in the visit. This would allow for adequate planning for the needs of the media and also the composition of the pools if these should be necessary. It should not be taken for granted that all media organisations would be automatically included in the pools.
It will be appreciated if you would telephone or fax us by 12 September, 1996
