Dr Z Pallo Jordan, Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, today informed the National Assembly of Parliament that his department intends establishing at least four new National Parks in the country.
The parks will be situated in the following areas:
1. Table Mountain and Peninsula in the Western Cape Province 2. Dongola area in the Northern Province 3. Agulhas area in the Western Cape Province 4. Namaqualand coast, West of Garies in the Northern Cape.
Minister Jordan was responding to a question asked in the National Assembly by Mr C A Wyngaard.
The establishment of the four new parks are indicative of the Minister's commitment to ensuring that government plays a leading role in protecting and preserving our environmental heritage for future generations. This is one of the basic human rights guaranteed in the new constitution, currently before the Constitutional Court.
