MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF ARTS, CULTURE, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, DR B S NGUBANE
Minister Ngubane today, on behalf of the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology voiced his support for Southern African Development Community (SADC) Day, to be celebrated on 17 August 1996.
The Minister said that South African artists and theatre institutions are being made aware of SADC Day and have been requested to dedicate their performances on Saturday to that cause.
These institutions are also being encouraged to start liaising with SADC's own institutions as part of an ongoing cultural aware- ness programme in all the sectors of culture in the whole SADC region.
Minister Ngubane also announced that South Africa will be participating in the SADC Theatre Festival which will be held in Maputo, Mozambique at the beginning of October of this year.
The Minister said that South Africa's favourable status that the Country now enjoys as a full member of SADC, will enable it to fully participate in all the cultural activities of the Countries in the Region.
