WINELANDS/WEST COAST HEARINGS: 14 OCTOBER - 17 OCTOBER
A public meeting will be held on Monday 19th August, 7 p.m. at the Paarl East Civic Hall, as part of the preparation for the Truth Commission public hearings which will be held in Paarl.
The Truth Commission speaker, addressing the meeting will be Ms Pumla Gobodo- Madikizela, a committee member in the Human Rights Violations Committee. Ms Gobodo-Madikizela will outline the procedure for bringing statements to the Truth Commission, and will also highlight some critical aspects that still need to be addressed at this phase of the work of the Commission. All Paarl residents are urged to attend the meeting. On the 20th, 21st and 22nd of August, a team of statement takers will be stationed at Mbekweni Community Hall, and in the City Hall from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. Gross violations of human rights that will be considered are those that took place from March 1960 through to December 1993. People who would like to make statements about how they, or members of their families, were affected by past violations of human rights should please come during the times indicated above.
