UPDATED PROGRAMME FOR THE PARLIAMENTARY BRIEFING WEEK, 19 - 23 AUGUST 1996
Herewith please find an updated programme for the Parliamentary Media Briefing Week, to be held in the Large Auditorium, 120 Plein Street, Cape Town from Monday, 19 August to Friday, 23 August 1996.
This second briefing week will provide the opportunity for recently appointed Ministers of the National Cabinet, as well as for those Ministers ad leaders of political parties who partook in the briefing week held in February of this year, to put their policies and viewpoints to the media.
No special accreditation will be required and valid press cards will be sufficient for access to the auditorium.
A social function, including lamb on the spit, will be held in a marquee tent in the Parliamentary complex on the evening of Wednesday, 21 August 1996. Ministers of Cabinet, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, Foreign Media based in South Africa, representatives of the private sector and members of the diplomatic corps are invited. However, admittance to this function will be by prior confirmation of this invitation only. Four work stations for foreign and South African media representatives (not members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery) have been set up in the SA Communication Service's new Information Research Centre next to the Large Auditorium. Another four work stations with Internet will also be available (no printing will be possible). Please note that no filing facilities are available in the Parliamentary complex.
Also note that all cellular phones will have to be switched off inside the Large Auditorium at all times.
Please note that the first briefings will start at 08:30 every morning. Each briefing will be 30 minutes long with a 15 minute break between briefings. A message has been conveyed to all speakers that there should be ample time for questions by media.
A video display unit will be made available in the Large Auditorium after every session of briefings for the purpose of monitoring proceedings in Parliament.
Furthermore an updated list of profiles of Ministers and Deputy Ministers as issued by the SA Communication Service is available on Internet under http://www.sacs.org.za.
With regard to the programme, it will be updated daily, if necessary and made available in the Large Auditorium throughout the briefing week.
