PRELIMINARY PARLIAMENTARY MEDIA BRIEFING WEEK

Issued by: SA Communication Service

PRELIMINARY PARLIAMENTARY MEDIA BRIEFING WEEK, 19 - 23 AUGUST 1996

The South African Communication Service (SACS) will be facilitating a second series of briefings by Ministers of the National Cabinet and leaders of political parties in August 1996 for the SA media, foreign media as well as diplomats.

In a recent independent survey several representatives indicated that more than one Parliamentary briefing week per year would be helpful and sincerely appreciated. This second briefing week will provide opportunities for recently appointed Ministers, as well as for those Ministers who partook in the briefing week held in February of this year, to put their policies and viewpoints to the media.

Similar to the February briefing week, the individual briefings will be 30 minutes long, but with 15 minutes break in-between. The briefing week will take place from Monday, 19 August 1996 to Friday, 23 August 1996 and will be held in the Large Auditorium, 120 Plein Street, Parliamentary complex, Cape Town.

No special accreditation will be required and valid press cards will be sufficient for access to the auditorium.

A social function, including lamb on the spit, is being planned. Ministers of the National Cabinet, members of Parliament, the media, representatives of the private sector and members of the diplomatic corps, are invited to this event, that will take place on Wednesday, 21 August. To enable us to list you as a guest at this function, as well as to inform you about possible last minute changes to the programme, please furnish us with the following details regarding your stay in Cape Town - cellular phone number; your pager number; and whether you are interested in attending the social function. (Admittance by confirmation of the invitation only). A faxed reply will be appreciated. Please direct your replies to Xanderie van der Watt at fax (012) 326 0317 BEFORE Thursday, 15 August 1996.
