STATEMENT FROM ARCHBISHOP DESMOND TUTU, CHAIRPERSON OF THE TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION
South Africa's political parties are to make their submissions to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the week beginning August 19.
Detailed arrangements for their presentations were agreed upon at a meeting between Commissioners and party representatives in Cape Town this afternoon. The order in which submissions will be made was established by the drawing of lots.
The following will be the order of presentation:
Monday August 19: Freedom Front; African Christian Democratic Party Tuesday August 20: Pan Africanist Congress Wednesday August 21: National Party Thursday August 22: African National Congress
The Inkatha Freedom Party was invited to today's meeting but was not present. The Commission has encouraged the IFP to make submissions to the Commission.
Proceedings will begin at 10 am each day and will take place at a Commission hearing room in Cape Town.
