CAPE TOWN
THURSDAY, 8 AUGUST 1996
09:30 Arrive at Cape Town International Airport. To be met by the mayor of Cape Town. Media to meet Niel du Bois/Robert Raborifi at entrance to Domestic Departures and not later than 09:00. All media with valid press cards welcome. New Zealand (NZ) media will disembark from aircraft just before NZ PM. Some will be escorted to waiting transport and depart immediately for Tuynhuys. The rest will join the SA and FCA media in demarcated area on tarmac. No roaming will be allowed.
10:30 Arrive at Tuynhuys. To be met by Chief of Protocol: Office of the President. Tete-a-tete between President Mandela and NZ PM. The President and NZ PM join the two delegations for bilateral talks. No media at arrival, tete-a-tete or bilateral talks. Possible two media calls. (1) Photo opportunity only at possible signing ceremony (No questions will be allowed) (2) Photo opportunity and doorstep press conference on steps in gardens of Tuynhuys. All media with valid press cards welcome. Media to meet Niel du Bois at entrance to Tuynhuys not later than 10:50.
PLEASE NOTE THAT NO CAMERA FLASHES OR TV LIGHTS WILL BE ALLOWED INSIDE OR OUTSIDE TUYNHUYS.
15:30 Courtesy call by Mr FW de Klerk, leader of the opposition, at Mount Nelson Hotel. Photo opportunity and possible doorstep conference AFTER the talks. Media to meet Niel du Bois in foyer of hotel not later than 15:45.
16:00 Courtesy call by Dr MG Buthelezi, Minister of Home Affairs, at Mount Nelson Hotel. Photo opportunity and possible doorstep press conference AFTER the talks. All media with valid press cards welcome. Media to meet Niel du Bois in foyer of hotel not later than 16:15.
16:30 Courtesy call by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, at Mount Nelson Hotel. Photo opportunity and possible doorstep press conference AFTER the talks. Media to meet Niel du Bois in foyer of hotel not later than 16:45
19:00 Arrive at Tuynhuys for official banquet. Strict pool arrangements for media TV = SA - one (two people0; NZ - one; NZ - two; FCA - one. Scribes = SA - one wire services; NZ one; FCA - one. Pools to meet Niel du Bois at entrance to Tuynhuys not later than 18:10. No media at arrivals. Ample photo opportunities at pre dinner drinks, also of President Mandela and NZ PM. No provision for pools to stay for whole evening. Pools will only be allowed inside banquet hall with toasts/speeches.
PLEASE NOTE THAT NO CAMERA FLASHES OF TV LIGHTS WILL BE ALLOWED WITH THE PRESIDENT. Although light is far from ideal, it will be sufficient for TV, but stills are advised to use fast film.

09:15 Tour of Island, visit to President Mandela's cell.
10:35 NZ PM arrives at Robben Island by Helicopter. Photo opportunity for all media.
10:45 PM visits President Mandela's cell. Pool arrangements for media = TV - one NZ; Scribes - one SA, one NZ, one FCA. Still photographers - one SA; two NZ, one FCA.
11:15 PM visits lime quarry. Photo opportunity and possible doorstep press conference for all media.
11:45 PM departs for Ysterplaat Airforce Base via Cape Point.
12:00 Media depart by boat for Cape Town.
12:45 Media arrive at Cape Town Harbour.
