JOINT PRESS STATEMENT BY MR M V MOOSA, MINISTER OF PROVINCIAL AFFAIRS AND CONSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND DR L D BARNARD, DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Mr M V Moosa, Minister of Provincial Affairs and Constitutional Development and Dr L D Barnard, Director-General of the Department of Constitutional Development announced in a joint statement that Dr Barnard will vacate his post with immediate effect. The announcement followed on discussions between them during which they agreed that in the changing situation this step will be in the best interest of all parties concerned.
Dr Barnard will effectively leave the Department on 30 November 1996. Until then he will remain in the Department and assist with special Departmental projects assigned to him by the Minister. His post will be advertised within the near future. For the interim as a transitional measure, Mr S S van der Merwe will act as Director-General.
Mr Moosa and Dr Barnard reiterated that the discussions between them took place in the best of spirits and that they will continue to work and co-operate with one another as they have done until now.
