WARNING TO PEOPLE CARRYING OF FIREARMS DURING FUNERALS

Issued by: Gauteng Provincial Government

The Gauteng Ministry of Public Safety and Security has noted with concern the carrying and use of firearms during funerals especially over weekends at various cemeteries around the province.

The Ministry would therefore like to issue a warning to all people who attend funerals carrying illegal firearms that law will take its course.

THe Ministry firmly believes that it is not only a legal offence to shoot a firearm in a public place, it is completely disrespectful to do so in a cemetery. The carrying and displaying of firearms especially illegal ones will not be tolerated by this Ministry at all.

We are appealing to all families not to allow such things to happen whilst they are showing last respect the deceased person or persons.

The Ministry has therefore asked the police to monitor funerals and to act firmly against people who unlawfully use their firearms.
