Issued by: Parliament of The Republic of South Africa
The sub-committee investigating the alleged collusion between banks, comprised of joint Housing, Finance and Trade and Industry Portfolio Committees, would like to invite your organisation to present evidence on this subject.
The sub-committee feels that the rise in interest rates recent- ly, has profound implications not only in terms of the ability of the public to borrow money from the banks, but also on the govern- ment's programmes of providing affordable housing to the poor and promoting the small business sector.
Thus your input would be mostly appreciated with regard to presenting another side to the subject, for instance, was this rise justifiable when one looks at the profit margins of these banks, and what would be your recommendation to this regard.
It may be necessary to review legislation governing the banks and competition. Thus it is vital that all stakeholders be consulted.
The hearings are scheduled to take place on 24, 25 July 1996 in the Department of Trade and Industry, Pretoria.
Written submission should be forwarded before the 15th of July to: Mr Muzi Khumalo P O Box 15 Parliament of RSA Committee Section 10th Floor, Parliament Towers Cape Town 8000
