LICENSING PROCESS OF SIX SABC STATIONS BEGINS

14 out of a possible 18 applications for private radio licences have been received by the IBA for the six SABC stations to be sold, and the licensing process has begun.

On Saturday 22 June the Authority gazetted the applications for licences for the first three SABC radio stations, KFM, Highveld Stereo and East Coast Radio.

Interested parties have one month from that date to submit written objections or other representations relating to the applications, either by registered post or hand delivered, to the IBA at Khasho House, 26 Baker Street, Rosebank, or to Private Bag X31, Parklands 2121, or to fax number (011) 441 1401. Proof of postage or delivery of any representations will be required.

The applications and written representations can be viewed by interested parties during office hours at the Independent Broadcasting Authority, Khasho House, 26 Baker Street, Rosebank.

As soon as all the documentation has been received, the IBA will hold public hearings and anticipates issuing judgements on all three stations by the end of August.
