Complaints of possible irregularities with the supplementary registration of voters in KwaZulu-Natal have been reported. The period for the inspection of claims received during the period for supplementary registrations will accordingly be extended, without affecting the election date of 26 June 1996. Details are being investigated and the period for the extension will be announced shortly by the provincial authority. A number of measures are being introduced to ensure that alleged large scale irregularities will not have an effect on the legitimacy of the elections.
The Presidential Task Group has the matter in hand and is completely convinced that all supplementary irregularities can be dealt with, to enable elections to take place on 26 June 1996.
